Multiplication is the inverse of division

When working with multiplication and division it is useful to understand that they are the inverse of each other. That means that multiplication can be used to undo division and vice versa.

For example, 25 ÷ 5 = 5 and 5 × 5 = 25.

This is also helpful when used to check answers to calculations.

Growing multiplication and division

Once a strategy is mastered, larger numbers can be used. For example, if we know that 3 × 5 = 15, it isn't much of a jump to work out 3 × 50 = 150 and 150 ÷ 3 = 50.
